Relinquishment Services
Choice Adoptions is a licensed adoption agency able to provide relinquishment counseling for birth parents based in Oregon and Washington. We also work with adoption attorneys and adoption agencies that need a local licensed adoption agency to complete required relinquishment services.

Relinquishment is an important step in the adoption process. Here at Choice, we provide a supportive and neutral space where birth parents can ask questions, understand their rights, and make an informed decision about their adoption plan.
What Is Relinquishment Counseling?
Relinquishment counseling is a required part of the adoption process before a birth parent signs legal documents consenting to an adoption. During this process, a licensed adoption agency meets with the birth parent to explain what relinquishment means, review their rights, and talk through what will happen before and after the legal documents are signed.

Relinquishment means a birth parent is voluntarily giving legal consent for their child to be adopted. Because this is an important and permanent decision, counseling gives the birth parent an opportunity to ask questions, understand their options, and make an informed decision.
Our role here at Choice is not to influence a birth parent's decision in any way, but to provide information and a safe place to talk through their options.
How It Works
Choice Adoptions provides the counseling, documentation, and coordination needed for the relinquishment process in Oregon and Washington. We work directly with birth parents, attorneys, and national adoption agencies to complete the required steps and make sure birth parents understand their rights, options, and what to expect throughout the rest of their adoption journey.
When you work with Choice, we will start with a conversation about your specific situation and connect you with one of our social workers based on what best fits your needs. Relinquishment counseling services are offered at a $1,500 flat rate, which includes two in-person meetings with the birth parent, required documentation, and coordination with the attorney or adoption agency. Costs may vary depending on social worker mileage and any additional time or steps needed in the process. These services are paid for by the adoption agency, attorney, or adoptive family, not the birth parent. If additional services are needed, we will discuss those requirements and any additional costs before moving forward.
